For manufacturers and distributors
How your film behaves in a real shop.
Lab data tells you what a film does on glass. I can tell you what happens between the box and the car: on the plotter, under the squeegee and in the customer's driveway a month later.
Nearly four decades installing, selling and running tint businesses. Publisher of the Film Lab, an independent record of 103 film families.

What I do for manufacturers
- Field evaluations
- A new product, a new batch or a roll you aren't sure about goes onto real vehicles with working installers. You get a written report with photos, measurements and a plain verdict: sell it as is, sell it with a note, or pull it.
- Spec sheet and claims review
- Installers trust numbers they can check. I'll read your data sheets and marketing claims the way the trade reads them, and show you what's missing before a competitor or a forum thread points it out.
- Installer and dealer insight
- What shops say about your film when your rep isn't in the room. Where it wins, where it loses, and what would change their mind.
- Independent lab testing
- Send a film, or have us buy it at retail. A university or independent optical lab measures it, and you get visible light, total solar energy rejected, infrared, UV and reflectance by the standard methods, set against the numbers on your sheet.
- Training and launch support
- Install guides, dealer trainings and launch events that installers will actually show up for, delivered by someone who has done the work.
Field evaluations
Every manufacturer ends up with film it isn't sure about: a roll wound wrong, a batch with a cosmetic flaw, a new construction nobody has installed at volume. Scrapping it is expensive. Shipping it blind is worse.
- You send the product and the question. What changed, what you're worried about and what a pass looks like to you.
- My installers cut it and put it on real vehicles, under normal shop conditions, the same way your dealers will.
- You get the report. Photos, measurements, who did the work, and a verdict you can act on.
Independent lab testing
A data sheet is a claim. A spectrophotometer reading is a measurement. When you need to know what a film really does on glass, for your own sheet, a competitor's, a dealer dispute or a fleet spec, we arrange the measurement and report it straight.
Priced by quote. The fee is set before testing and never depends on the result.
- Samples with a paper trail. Bought at retail with receipt and lot photos, or supplied by you and labeled that way. Each sample is blind-coded before it reaches the lab, and half is sealed and kept.
- Measured on a university or independent optical lab's spectrophotometer, with the lab named in the report: transmittance and both reflectances from 300 to 2500 nm with an integrating sphere, on one lot of clear glass, with the bare glass measured too.
- Calculated by the standard methods. The spectra run through LBNL Optics and WINDOW to NFRC and ISO 9050 / EN 410 values, with the method named. Infrared is reported across the full 780–2500 nm band and at the single wavelength handheld meters read.
- You get the report: the raw spectra, the calculated values, the comparison with the published sheet and the chain-of-custody log.
Consulting never buys a grade.
I also run the Film Lab, where every film family gets an evidence level based on what its maker publishes. That level is calculated from your public documents and nothing else, so the only way to raise it is to publish better data. I'm glad to help you do that.
Consulting clients are disclosed wherever their film appears on this site. Commissioned lab results are labeled as commissioned and never change a film's evidence level.

A product, a problem roll, a launch or a question you can't get a straight answer to. Inquiries stay private, and I'm glad to work under your NDA.
